Geography Krillion guide

Updated

Geography is one of the most common kinds of Krillion prompt, and one of the most rewarding. The world has about 195 countries, thousands of islands and more rivers than anyone can name, yet most players reach for the same dozen.

Know the kind of place being asked for

Geography prompts hide very different questions under similar wording. Before you search, sort the prompt into one of three maps:

  • Political places: countries, capitals, states, provinces, cities. Boundaries and names come from governments and can change.
  • Physical features: rivers, lakes, seas, mountains, deserts, volcanoes. These are about the land and water itself.
  • Lists with a rule: “landlocked”, “borders China”, “flag is only red and white”, “starts with M”. The rule matters more than the place.

Travel a route, don’t wait for a name

The worst way to answer “Name a landlocked country” is to wait for one to arrive. You’ll get Switzerland or Austria, like everyone else. Instead, pick a region and sweep it:

  • Europe: Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, North Macedonia, Moldova, Belarus, Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino, Vatican City
  • Africa: Mali, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Central African Republic
  • Asia: Mongolia, Laos, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan
  • South America: Bolivia, Paraguay

Two of those regions alone give you far more answers than you need, and Central Asia and Africa are where the deep cuts live.

Political vs. physical traps

  • A country’s largest city is often not its capital: Lagos vs. Abuja, Istanbul vs. Ankara, Sydney vs. Canberra, Toronto vs. Ottawa.
  • Territories aren’t countries unless the prompt says so: Greenland, Puerto Rico and French Guiana are the usual traps.
  • A river flowing through a country is different from one that starts there.

Where rare geography answers hide

A weekly drill

Pick one region each week and learn it in layers: countries first, then capitals, then two rivers and two mountains per country. After a month you’ll have rare answers ready for most map prompts. Our four-week practice plan builds this into a routine.
