Krillion movies guide
Updated
Film prompts reward people who watch a lot, but even film buffs fall into the same trap: naming the biggest hit. In a rare-answer game, the box-office champion is the worst possible pick.
Organise films by people, place and time
Instead of waiting for titles to appear, walk through a film list in a fixed order:
- By career stage. Every director and actor has early films, peak films and late films. The peak is crowded; the edges are quiet. Spielberg’s Duel or The Sugarland Express, Hitchcock’s British films such as The Lady Vanishes or The 39 Steps.
- By decade. Ask “what did they make in the 1990s?” rather than “what did they make?”.
- By studio era. Disney’s animation has distinct eras: the 1940s package films, the 1970s, the 2000s experiments. Each era has titles people forget.
Know the boundary words
Film prompts are full of small words that change everything:
- Directed by vs. produced by vs. written by.
- Pixar vs. Disney animation: Frozen is Disney, Coco is Pixar.
- Won an Oscar vs. nominated for one.
- Starring usually means a lead or major role, not a cameo.
Where rare film answers hide
| Prompt | Crowded | Quieter |
|---|---|---|
| Pixar films | Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Up | Onward, Luca, Elemental, The Good Dinosaur |
| Hitchcock films | Psycho, Vertigo, The Birds | Rope, Lifeboat, Notorious, Frenzy |
| Studio Ghibli | Spirited Away, Totoro | Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday, The Cat Returns |
| Best Picture winners | Titanic, The Godfather | Wings, Marty, Tom Jones, Crash |
| Disney villains | Scar, Ursula, Maleficent | Ratigan, Madame Medusa, Yzma |
Characters and franchises
For character prompts like Harry Potter or Marvel, the main cast is crowded. Move to supporting characters, teachers, villains’ henchmen and characters from one specific film or book. Make sure you can spell the name; fantasy names are easy to mangle under pressure.
